At GION AYA, we use a "half wig" to wrap and set the customer's front and side hair.

This is the determining factor for the quality of the maiko, who are known to be of high quality.
This half-wig has a very natural hairline. It gives the impression of being a Japanese hairstyle using your own hair. Half-wigs are more difficult to make than full-wigs, but all of our staff are trained in the techniques of half-wigs.
At GION AYA, we use a "half wig" for all plans at no extra charge. (For those with hair shorter than 5cm or with a short cut, we provide a full wig.)
Professional geisha also wear full wigs, so all geisha in our shop also wear full wigs. In addition, depending on the hairstyle, or for customers who "don't want to use their own hair" or "don't want to wash their hair afterwards", we also provide full wigs at no extra charge.
I am often asked, "What do you do with your hair after your maiko experience?"
Even though it is a half wig, only a portion of the hair at the front and sides will be used, so after your maiko experience, you will be asked to wash off the front and sides of your hair.
Shampoo is provided in the makeup room. Hairdryers and other amenities are also provided, so you can come empty-handed.
