Did you know that there is a geisha preparation that can only be seen in the spring?

April is soon coming to an end.

In April, the Miyako Odori dance festival will be held, where maiko and geisha from the Gion Kobu district, one of the five entertainment districts, will perform their dances.

Did you know that the geisha actually undergo special preparations that can only be seen during this period?

Geisha, who usually wears a Shimada-style wig, is wearing a Kyoto-style Shimada with her own hair.

Ms. A, who always comes to our store with her natural hair tied up and a full set of kimono, came to the shoot this year with her hair tied up in a Kyoto-style Shimada hairstyle.

In the past, the shoots were of the younger maiko wearing the "Wareshinobu" wig, the older maiko wearing the "Ofuku" wig, and the geisha wearing a regular wig.

This time, I had a special experience.

The kimono is black with a crest, so the nape of the neck has three legs.

This shape is difficult to make by hand, so he brought a special pattern with him.

The way the kimono is worn is also different from usual, the obi is tied in a special way called a jubako knot, not a double drum knot.

As obijime is not worn when wearing formal attire, no obijime is worn here either.

Another distinctive feature is the turned-over collar, which is worn by turning the collar over so that the red cloth on the inside of the kimono is visible.

The red cloth sewn to the back of the undergarment is visible when wearing it, making the area around the face look very gorgeous.

I also took some photos outside, and the kimono with the turned-down collar is much more showy than the usual geisha get-togethers.

Even if you have your hair done, the Kyoto-style Shimada style makes you look mature and mature.

It was refreshing to see Ms. A with a more mature, older sister-like expression than ever before.

All of the costumes and other items were Ms. A's personal property, so this will probably be the only time she gets ready in her life, but it was a very valuable experience.

The school was in charge of A-san's makeup, dressing, and photography.

Geiko who have their hair done during this period wear their usual makeup on their face, leaving only their necks painted white, in order to distinguish them from maiko when they go to the evening tatami rooms.

So, if you see a geisha dressed like that at night, it's very rare.
