At Gionsai, after the white paint is complete, we add color with blush.

I am often asked by customers, "Do you also use blush?"

In the case of maiko, rather than using blush, it is more to express the flush that appears from within, like when you drink alcohol and your face turns red.

If you apply it like blush, it will end up looking like Otemoyan.

Maiko tend to have droopy eyes, while geisha tend to have slanted eyes, so they tend to have talismans put on their heads.

We can also make the eyes of maiko look sharper and more upturned, depending on the customer's request.

And it makes your eyes look bigger and brighter, and gives you a more mature look.

The key to eye makeup is the black eyeliner

When wearing traditional Japanese makeup, the color will come out well even if you use it over white makeup."Lubotan"I use a stage eyeliner called "eyeliner".

It produces a very deep black color, and by using the matte type you can draw deep black lines.

When applying makeup for maiko, the size of the eyes changes with the eyeliner, so even if you have double eyelids, you can apply it thickly across the entire width of the eyelid, or use eye tape to lift the eyeliner so that it stands out more.

For those with single eyelids, the makeup staff will draw the eyelashes so thickly that they look like there is another eye, and they will use trial and error to achieve the look that suits the customer's desired image and eye shape.
