Just five years ago in August, my daughter turned seven-five-three years old, so I photographed her as a maiko, something I had always wanted to do.

Recently, we have been seeing an increase in the number of people who want to experience being a maiko while they still have that childlike quality.

It's about time to start thinking about what to do about the Shichi-Go-San photo shoot!

Some people just do the photo shoot during the summer holidays, like a pre-wedding shoot.

That's a long introduction, but having your daughter photographed in a maiko costume means there are a few hurdles she must overcome compared to having her picture taken at a children's photography studio.

So, in this blog, I, a mother who had my daughter try being a maiko, would like to introduce some points to keep in mind when having a child maiko experience.

 

◆ Point 1

Help your daughter understand what a "Maiko" is and how cute she is when she wears the makeup and kimono of a "Maiko."

 

Even my daughter, who works at a maiko experience studio, knew almost nothing about maikos, so when I said, "Let's dress up as maikos and take photos next time," she was like, "What's that?"...

After doing this, my daughter gradually started to look forward to it, asking things like "I want to do it!" and "When are we going to do it?"

 

 

◆ Point 2

Japanese makeup is different from regular makeup, so get used to it.

Nowadays, there are a lot of makeup videos available on YouTube, so if your daughter is very conscious about beauty, she may be watching those videos and secretly touching her mother's makeup tools.

Even though my daughter is used to makeup, the Japanese makeup worn by maiko involves things that we don't often come into contact with in our everyday lives, such as "applying white makeup," "applying eyeliner as part of eye makeup," and "applying rouge dissolved in water."

When you actually come to the salon, the makeup staff will have fun applying your makeup, so most daughters are able to complete the makeup process, but if you get your daughter used to it a bit before the experience, she will be able to feel more at ease on the day.

Even child maiko wear half wigs, so the hair in the front and on the sides is left uncut.

If you are planning to have your child photographed for the Shichi-Go-San ceremony, you will probably want to grow your hair long. However, children's hair is still delicate and has little volume, so leaving it long will allow the wig to be styled more beautifully.

Also, even wigs for children are quite heavy, so it's good to know that!

 

◆ Point 4

I'll let you know that it's easy to remove white makeup.

You can remove the white makeup with baby oil. You can also wash your face with foam at the end, so you can go home feeling refreshed.

When my daughter said she wanted to try it, I was a little nervous because I wondered if it would be able to remove all the makeup. Also, my daughter hated washing her face, so

I also practiced washing my face with foam.
