Maiko's traditional Japanese makeup is full of worries, even from the moment they start applying the white paint...

One of the reasons I have been engrossed in Japanese makeup for the past 15 years is because I want to get rid of that feeling!!!

Even with traditional Japanese makeup, you can still look pretty, beautiful, and achieve the image you want to project! There's a reason for this.

So, in this blog, I'd like to introduce not only the white-faced Japanese makeup, but also some very important points for everyday makeup♡

When I train new staff, I always tell them from the very beginning that they should not be obsessed with finishing the parts.

When completing your makeup, be aware of how it will look in terms of the overall balance.

(This is also important when styling wigs and putting on kimonos!)

If the overall balance is what is known as the golden ratio for a person's face, then the resulting makeup will be one that anyone who sees it will say is "cute" or "pretty."

Even though we say golden ratio, it may be difficult to understand just by reading it, so I will show you an example with a photo.

①The two photos below are of the exact same model, the one on the left is golden ratio makeup, and the one on the right is...yes, an example of eyebrows that are too thick.

No, thick eyebrows are not a bad thing at all.

In terms of the overall balance of the makeup, and if you want the ideal maiko-like bamboo eyebrows,

The eyebrows on the right are too thick.

So doesn't it look a little unsophisticated?

*The eyebrows on the right are simply the same as the left eyebrows, only made thicker, so the color and texture remain the same. However, just by doing this, the appearance changes completely.

②Next, on the left is golden balance makeup, and on the right is an example of eyebrows that are raised too much.

It depends on what kind of image you want to create.

I want to create a rather cute and ephemeral image for the maiko's eyebrows, so I think it's best not to make them too angled.

③The left side is golden balance makeup, and the right side is an example of makeup without an incision line at the inner corner of the eye (eyeliner drawn slightly toward the inner corner of the eye).

Either is OK, but I was concerned about the distance between the eyes of the makeup staff member who was modeling for this maiko, Konawa, so

Including an incision line for the inner corners of the eyes will also make the entire face appear tighter.

Even without the incision line on the right side, you can achieve a cute, youthful look.

Our staff will decide whether or not to include these differences based on the image the customer is aiming for.

④The left side is an example of golden balance makeup, and the right side is an example of plump lips.

This difference also depends on the shape of the customer's lips and the image they want to project, but in maiko makeup, lips look cuter when drawn slightly smaller.

The one on the right looks more colorful.

Our staff will also consider the balance of lip volume based on the customer's desired image and any complexes they may have.
