At GION AYA, when you start your makeup,

Because... most of the maiko have never done makeup before,

It's hard to know what suits you best and what the right answer is.

In everyday life, some people prefer a "cute" image, others prefer a "pretty" image, and others "want to look young" (← this is my wish. (lol)) etc., so preferences vary from customer to customer,

We tailor the makeup for the maiko to match the "image they want to achieve"!

 

It's a very deep topic, but as we discuss the differences between what customers think of as "cute" or "pretty" makeup and what our staff think of as "cute" and "pretty," we will use various elements, such as the fashion you wear when you visit the store, the accessories you bring with you, and your makeup, to help us recreate the "image you want to have."

An example of the "cute" and "beautiful" types is as follows:

 

Nowadays, we have many customers from overseas as well as Japanese customers.

We will also consider the preferences of our overseas customers and create makeup that perfectly harmonizes the image you desire with the traditional Japanese makeup of maikos.

 

In either case, the important thing is to"Japanese" MakeupTo be.

Since our customers are from Europe or America, we don't necessarily do completely Western makeup; however, that alone won't create an atmosphere that matches the kimono, so we always include some Japanese elements.

 

Today we had a customer from Korea, so we did some maiko makeup, incorporating elements of "ulzzang" makeup, and she was really happy with it ♡

The defining feature of Ulzzang makeup is the outer corners of the eyes! By applying eyeliner to the outer corners of your eyes and applying amulets to the outer corners of your eyes, you can create a "big eye" effect.

However, if you draw your eyebrows in a bamboo-like shape and don't make them too thick, you can complete a makeup look that suits the Japanese style!

 

Western customers tend to have strong bones, so if you apply too much color or too thick eyeliner, they will look too masculine, so we incorporate elements of makeup that Westerners like, such as eyebrow color and eyeliner that focuses on the outer corner of the eye.

However, if the eyebrows have a prominent arch, it will look like "Western" makeup, so we will add a "Japanese" element to the eyebrows.

And finally, "subtraction" makeup!

This customer wanted to have the image of a younger maiko, so in order to look good in photos, we applied eyeliner just enough to fill in the gaps between her eyelashes.

When you want to create a completely youthful impression, like a maiko who has just started out, we use makeup that is "subtractive" but still looks good in photos.
