Geisha Makeover Experience

We helped liven up Kyocera Corporation's sports championship celebration by having them experience dressing up as maiko.

It's Gion Festival season!

At Yasaka Shrine, located very close to GION AYA, the music of the Gion Festival is playing, making us feel that summer has arrived in Kyoto (^^♪

Inside GION AYA, we have information about the Gion Festival and hand towels on display, creating a Kyoto summer atmosphere, so we hope you will come and feel that atmosphere♪

Well, last month, the victory celebration for the sports tournament held by Kyocera Corporation, which includes qualifying rounds and fierce competition from all over the country, was to be held in Kyoto, the birthplace of Kyocera Corporation, and I had the opportunity to help liven up the celebration!!

The project I helped with was one in which Kyocera employees dressed up as maiko and entertained the athletes and guests participating in the sporting event (*^-^*)

This was a project that could only happen in Kyoto, and it was a surprise for the athletes, so I was excited as I prepared for the event.



Two of our employees transformed into maiko ♡ At first, they seemed a bit nervous and anxious about whether it would suit them, but as they got ready, we were glad to hear comments like "It suits you~♡ You're so cute♡" (^^)/

Once they were done, they both looked at each other in the mirror and exclaimed, "Wow, that's amazing!", looking delighted with their own transformations(*ﾉωﾉ)

I thought that they wouldn't be able to liven up the venue unless the two of them got excited! So I was relieved (^^♪

I also followed up with her on how to handle the sleeves like a maiko and tips on taking photos (^_-)-☆

As soon as the athletes entered the venue they were delighted and exclaimed, "It's a maiko!" and took commemorative photos with them. The two of them dressed as maiko were very popular!




Kyocera Corporation is a large company with many subsidiaries, so I was surprised at the scale of the victory celebration.

What I learned a lot from was the passion that all Kyocera employees have for strengthening unity!

As I was helping out and observing the atmosphere at the venue, it was impressive to see people from the same company holding meetings with each other, calling out to each other within the venue, and working hard to ensure that the guests and athletes had a good time.

The commemorative photo booth was built by the venue staff, who cut bamboo and added electric lights, showing just how much effort they put into it (*ﾉωﾉ)
(↓↓ They even made fans with the names of the employees dressed as maiko on them. I was really impressed!)


At GION AYA, we welcome customers from all over the world to experience the unique atmosphere of Kyoto and Gion.GION AYA's unique hospitality In order to achieve this, I think it is very important for all staff members to have a strong sense of unity.

So, the interactions between the employees and the atmosphere at the venue were very stimulating!

It was a very refreshing experience for me to get ready in a different environment than usual, and I was reminded that maiko are a symbol of Kyoto and that I am doing a job that allows people to experience that culture (*^-^*)
